In a statement, the GNR reported that the operation began on Thursday and recalled that an increasing influx of people is expected in the tourist areas, thus registering a substantial increase in the population, both national and foreign.
Therefore, “an extra effort” is needed to guarantee the safety of the population and their property, as well as public tranquillity.
According to the GNR, the summer season is also characterised by “a decrease in the population in areas of habitual residence, which causes some homes to remain uninhabited for long periods of time”, hence the need to prevent the “occurrence of associated crime”.
The operation will involve several reinforcement efforts, “in a flexible manner, in coordinated awareness-raising, patrolling and inspection actions” in monitoring the coastline and patrolling nightlife establishments and those with larger crowds.
According to the GNR, community policing will also be promoted in residential areas and support, regulation and inspection actions for road traffic will be reinforced, with particular emphasis on the main roads, on communication routes with the highest accident rates and the heaviest traffic volume.
In terms of community policing, with regard to foreign tourists, and within the scope of international cooperation, the GNR will carry out several joint and mixed patrol actions in various parts of the country, with the Guardia Civil of Spain, the Gendarmerie Nationale of France and the Arma dei Carabinieri of Italy.
In addition to the mixed patrol, the GNR will also ensure the assistance, reception and special guidance for these citizens in particular.
According to the note, the Guard will also monitor the stay of foreign citizens, “in establishments or economic operators capable of maintaining irregular practices, with special incidence in critical areas of summer labor influx, in order to contribute to adequate working conditions”.
