According to data released by DREM, tourist accommodation in the autonomous region had 221.3 thousand guests in April (+11.8% compared to the same month of the previous year), which generated around 1.1 million overnight stays (+12.2%), 73.5 million euros in total income (+22.2%) and 54 million euros in income from accommodation (+26.9%).

The hotel segment accounted for 66% of the overnight stays in April (721.3 thousand), increasing 6.7% year-on-year, while vacation rentals (31.5% of the total) and rural tourism (2.5% of the total) rose 26.% and 11.1%, respectively.

“It should be noted that the results may have been slightly influenced by the calendar effect, since, while Easter in 2024 took place in March, in 2025 it was celebrated in April”, highlights DREM.

The regional statistics authority also says that, for comparability purposes with the data released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which includes the entire country, it is necessary to exclude local accommodation with less than 10 beds in relation to the guest and overnight stay variables. In relation to the other variables, the data coincides with that of the INE.

The net occupancy rate per bed in tourist accommodation in the region in April was 70.3%, +1.5 percentage points compared to the same month (68.8%), while the occupancy rate per room reached 80.4% (78.3% in April 2024).

In the same month, the average stay in tourist accommodation was 4.51 nights, remaining unchanged compared to the same month of the previous year, with the highest values ​​recorded in hotels and vacation rentals.

Source markets

The top 10 source markets accounted for 80.4% of the total number of overnight stays recorded in April, with Germany standing out (19.4% of the total and +5.6% compared to April 2024) and Portugal (with 16.7% of the total and an increase of 39.9%), which overtook the United Kingdom this month, a situation that had not been seen since August 2023.

The British market accounted for 14.5% of the total number of overnight stays, registering an increase of 2.1% compared to April last year, and in fourth place, in terms of relative weight in the total number of overnight stays, is the French market (9.7% of the total), followed by the Polish market (5.9%).

Revenue

The Regional Statistics Office says that the average revenue per available room (RevPAR) was around 101.33 euros for all tourist accommodation, up 24% compared to the same month last year.

Taking stock of the first four months of the year, DREM indicates that 697.5 thousand guests entered tourist accommodation, which represented a growth of 7.7% compared to the same period last year. The number of overnight stays also increased, rising by 9% to around 3.7 million.
