Sent across 150 miles of commercial fibre optic lines, including three telecom data centres in Frankfurt, Kehl, and Kirchfeld, the demonstration set a new record distance for real-world and practical quantum distribution.


This achievement suggests that quantum communications can be accomplished in real-world conditions, and without spending billions to revolutionise telecom infrastructure.
