Greece has announced the boundaries of two planned marine parks in the Ionian and Aegean seas, which are set to be the largest in the Mediterranean region.

The establishment of these parks aims to protect sea mammals and turtles in the former and for seabirds and seals in the latter, with Athens pushing for approval this year.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said they will help the country meet its global commitment to expand marine protected areas to 30 percent of its water by 2030.
