The homes are part of two new housing blocks, with one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, located in the Vale Formoso de Cima area of the parish of Marvila, with construction beginning in 2023.

The project represented an investment of approximately €9.3 million, co-financed with funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

According to the Lisbon City Council, the housing units are part of a "broader" municipal project for the Vale Formoso de Cima area, which also includes the ongoing construction of another affordable housing project, with 105 units ranging from studios to four-bedroom apartments.

In a ceremony held this afternoon, Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas (PSD), accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, handed over the keys to the homes to 50 families, highlighting the city's work in this area.

"This is your home, this is your right," said the mayor, adding that "handing over a key is changing a life, it's changing a family."

In this regard, at the end of the ceremony, speaking to reporters, Carlos Moedas highlighted the work done in the housing sector during his current term, stating that 2,744 keys have been handed over.

"We managed to deliver 2,744 keys when, for 10 years, there was almost no construction in Lisbon. Therefore, we must recognize that there was a decade of stagnation, when 17 houses were being built per year, just imagine," he pointed out.

The mayor also highlighted the fact that Lisbon has 12% municipal housing, expressing his intention to increase this number.

"There are few European cities with this percentage. We have over 12% and we will continue to have more. We continue to increase our efforts because it is very important," he assured.

In turn, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, highlighted the work being done nationally, noting that 12,000 houses have already been delivered and that another 8,000 will be built by the end of the year.

"The housing problem isn't a problem for Lisbon, Porto, Leiria, or Beja; it's everyone's problem. Let's be clear that we're only solving a small part of it. Don't think that housing prices will change next month, or in two or three months," the minister warned.
