In a statement, the PSP explains that the "Solidarity Has No Age" operation will run until 26 September nationwide, with awareness-raising activities and individual outreach to the elderly population, those over 65.
The objective is to "detect cases of social fragility, greater physical and psychological vulnerability, and suspected crimes of domestic violence or other crimes against life or physical integrity."
There is also a social aspect of outreach to people living in isolation and potentially at-risk situations.
This PSP operation has been taking place annually since 2012 and primarily involves officers assigned to the Victim Support and Outreach Teams.
The PSP (Public Security Police) reminds that "all citizens can report any suspected crime, especially if directed against elderly people, via email at violenciadomestica@psp.pt and perto@psp.pt or in person at police stations."
