"The motivation will be great. I'll try to help Al Nassr, which is one of the best clubs in Saudi Arabia, win titles. Ronaldo is a player who has always won everything he's played for. He hasn't won in Saudi Arabia yet. I'll see if I can help him," Jorge Jesus stated.
The coach was speaking to reporters at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, from where he will depart for Riyadh for his return to the Saudi league, following Ronaldo's invitation.
"Without his invitation, I certainly wouldn't be there," said Jesus, 70.
According to the coach, working with the 40-year-old Portuguese international forward will be made easier by their shared goals: "We speak the same language, everything is easy. I couldn't turn down the challenge Cristiano gave me."
Jorge Jesus, who left Al Hilal in May, will return to Saudi Arabia with a "verbal agreement" to take over as head coach of Al Nassr, third in last season's league and winless since 2018/19, for the 2025/26 season.
"I've always been treated well [at Al Hilal], I have no reason to complain. That's the life of a coach. I'm returning to our rival [Al Nassr]. It was the same as leaving Benfica for Sporting. I love being in Saudi Arabia; it's the country of the future, in football and beyond. We're delighted to return. I've always been very happy. I've always won, and now I'm going to try to do it again," he concluded.
This was also the first time Jesus admitted having had the opportunity to coach the Brazilian national team, a position previously held by Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
"Last year, I made a mistake by not accepting the Brazilian national team project. I didn't want to go because I was completely invested in Al Hilal," he lamented.
Jesus will be the fifth coach and the second Portuguese to coach Al Nassr since Ronaldo's arrival on December 30, 2022, after Frenchman Rudi Garcia, Croatian Dinko Jelicic, Luís Castro, and Italian Stefano Pioli.
Get paid millions to coach in a pub-level league?
Yes please.
I wouldn't need an invitation from an old donkey either.
