Marco Galinha, CEO of the Grupo Bel, stated on social media that the foundation “will award scholarships to young journalists who continue to study and work in Portugal.”

The project also aims to support “media literacy programmes to train more critical and aware readers” and encourage the development of “independent journalism projects, because democracy needs plurality and courage,” wrote the group's CEO.

The amount that will be awarded by the scholarships is not yet known.

Grupo Bel is a shareholder in the Global Media group, the company that owns titles such as Diário de Notícias, Açoriano Oriental, Dinheiro Vivo, among others.
