This is according to the mayor of Vila Real, Alexandre Favaios, who stated that, in 2025, “the circuit will return in full force”, emphasising, however, that the event “is much more than just about speed”.
“It is a total celebration of the municipality and its people. A weekend in which everything pulses with greater intensity”, he said.
The car races, which take place on the streets of the city of Vila Real, had their first motorsport event in 1931 and have been held continuously since 2014.
“The impact of the circuit on our city is visible and tangible: it fills hotels, restaurants, and cafes, boosts commerce, and attracts thousands of visitors. But its true value is not measured in numbers alone,” argued Alexandre Favaios.
The mayor said that the goal is to “continue to affirm Vila Real as the national capital of motorsports” and “continue to offer the city and the region an event that is economy, tradition, innovation, and excitement.”
Alexandre Favaios emphasized that the International Circuit “projects Vila Real into the national and international context,” highlighting the return, in the 2025 edition, of a World Touring Car Championship event and the Portuguese Speed Championship.
For three days, from July 4 to 6, the city of Trás-os-Montes will host one of the stages of the KUMHO TCR World Tour, sponsored by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), a competition that replaced the World Touring Car Cup.
The program also includes a stage of the Portuguese Classic Speed Championship and a demonstration of supercars and the Porsche Club.
According to the president of the Vila Real Automobile Club, Jorge Almeida, there will be around “200 drivers” competing in the various events on this circuit, which has 500 volunteers on the track, including track marshals, pit marshals, sports technicians, race officials, firefighters, doctors and nurses.
In addition to the sports competitions, there will also be shows by Xutos & Pontapés and the English band James, and the Wine & Food Circuit exhibition in the city center, where producers of wine and other typical products from the region will be present, including meats, covilhetes and convent sweets from Vila Real.
The 2025 edition is also associated with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the city of Vila Real.
