‘Here to Help’ Association for Protection of Animals Algarve’s (APAA) motto. “Barry and Lynn helped us at the Silves charity shop. Barry recently died of a heart-attack, Lynn, suffering from ill-health returning to UK but cannot take their 6-yr-old tabby cat.”
Jenny the President, is certain they can re-home ‘Bella’ who is vaccinated, good with other animals. All at APAA are wishing Lynn well. Looking ahead APAA and friends ARA (Animal Rescue Algarve) whose shelter outside of Loulé is a stunning tribute to Sid Richardson and his young team at ‘Cabanita’. “They’re impressive!”

Jenny and Anita have been working hard on the video ‘Legacy Pet Plan’ magically crafted by Algarve’s author and photographer Carlos Filipe. “Anyone visiting the shelter will immediately see how amazing the place is. For real! Pools, walking parks play areas with water jets for the summer heat.” No competition. “So, we know if anything happens, death or become ill; no longer able to love and look after our dear pets then we have an alternative.” Apart from the obvious there is the feeding and veterinary care on hand.

Anita, Ambassador, using her natural skills will be taking the special message forward to the public. “There’s so much we can do for our furry-friends, not leave it until it’s too late!” Anita’s well known for her ‘Pop-Up’ Shops and events. “I am going to give it a real go!” Her charming smile lights up her face. “We can only tell it like it is… The video does help, because it can be re-visited. And it starts a discussion point, where sometimes people don’t want to start!” Harnessing not only abandonment, the quality of ARA’s shelter and care, but the need to draw attention to a growing problem. Abandoned animals. Jenny concludes.
“I could tell stories of people who have left their pets to the care of friends, neighbours. It starts out ok, at the beginning. But something terrible happens and the animals are neglected. Sometimes ending up in the local Canil. Unlikely to have the chance of re-homing?” Indeed. Anita agrees. “We’re just saying if your pets are your loved ones, then don’t forget, if anything happens to you what happens to them?’
