The information was provided today to the Lusa news agency by Prosolia Energy, an independent energy producer with investments in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Mexico.

“With an installed capacity of 43 megawatts (MW), the facility is now fully operational, generating around 70 gigawatts (GWh) of clean energy per year — enough to power around 60,000 homes,” the company said in a statement.

According to Prosolia Energy, the electricity produced prevents the emission of up to 61,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually.

According to the company, the new solar plant allows Prosolia Energy to reinforce its commitment “to the energy transition and environmental sustainability”.

According to the same note, a partnership was established with local shepherds to allow sheep grazing within the limits of the Boidobra Solar Power Plant, a town adjacent to Covilhã, in the district of Castelo Branco.

The measure aims to promote “the natural management of vegetation, favouring soil fertilization and preserving native biodiversity”.

Prosolia Energy added that the facility was created with high-base fencing and wide mesh close to the ground, “allowing safe passage for small mammals, maintaining ecological connectivity and promoting a balanced ecosystem.”
