As an adult-only sanctuary, Gato Preto de Silves accommodates a maximum of 12 guests, ensuring the environment remains serene and never overcrowded. The Old Portuguese cabin

The Old Portuguese Garden Cabin, one of the independent cabins available, is a perfect haven for those seeking an unforgettable stay. Its decor is an elegant blend of modern comfort and traditional Portuguese charm, with blue-and-white features inspired by the country’s iconic tile heritage. The cabin’s interior creates a soothing, inviting atmosphere, while the bathroom exudes tranquillity.

The real highlight, however, is the private outdoor patio, featuring a kitchenette, dining, and living area, all sheltered from the elements, making it an ideal space to enjoy year-round. The stunning views from this cabin, combined with its secluded location, offer a sense of privacy, making it feel like you’re the only one around.

The other cabins and rooms are equally impressive, each offering unique features designed to cater to a variety of tastes, all the while maintaining privacy as their principal priority.

A Portuguese breakfast

While you’re welcome to prepare your own breakfast using the available facilities, you should definitely try the house’s breakfast, crafted with locally sourced ingredients. You can choose between two delightful options: a traditional Portuguese breakfast or a Continental breakfast, both of which are sure to satisfy. The star of the breakfast is the careful selection of seasonal, local products, which vary depending on what’s fresh at the time.

Expect freshly baked bread and croissants, freshly squeezed orange juice made from Portugal’s finest Silves’ oranges, seasonal fruit, delicious local pastries, homemade jams, and a selection of coffee or tea to suit your taste. You can enjoy this delicious breakfast under the bougainvillea pergola, or you can explore private breakfast baskets also available upon request.

Although there is no restaurant at Gato Preto, there is always the possibility to order dinner in advance. The Algarvian Basket is the perfect solution for a delicious and effortless evening. Delivered straight to your door, this thoughtfully curated basket features a selection of local and homemade food.

One of the highlights is the Culinary E-Bike Tour of the Algarve’s countryside, which takes you through the scenic interior to discover local delicacies.

Additionally, guests can enjoy the hands-on experience of orange picking at an organic farm or participate in cooking classes at Gato Preto. These classes range from a fish BBQ with a visit to the local market, to learning the art of cooking traditional Cataplana, or even mastering Algarvian sweets. For the owner, Gloria Ongaro, who is Italian by blood but Portuguese by heart, Gato Preto de Silves is more than just a place to stay; it’s about creating meaningful connections, collaborating with local partners, and sharing the authentic experiences of rural Algarve. Since it opened its doors in 2014, Gato Preto has evolved from being a simple guest house to a vibrant base for immersive experiences, as for Glori,a “the idea of just providing lodging felt limiting”. Over the years, this space has been thoughtfully restored to retain its authentic charm, all the while embracing sustainable practices.
