The Madeira Government Council has just approved a set of strategic measures that mark a new step in the development of the Ponta do Pargo Golf Course, currently under construction, and which aim to advance the strategy defined for the area covered by the development's Urbanization Plan, located on the island's west coast.

The main decision, according to a note published on the Regional Government's website, involves authorizing the concession of the Ponta do Pargo Golf Course to a private partner, which will be selected through a competitive process. In addition to the concession, the Government Council also authorized the sale of properties adjacent to the development, earmarked for tourism and residential real estate projects, with the aim of attracting private investment and boosting the local economy.

Ponta do Oeste – Sociedade de Promoção e Desenvolvimento da Zona Oeste da Madeira, S.A., under the auspices of the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure, will be responsible for executing the necessary concession and disposal procedures, closely monitoring the entire development process.

Designed by golf champion Sir Nick Faldo, the Ponta do Pargo Golf Course stands out for its unique location on the cliffs of Madeira's west coast, offering exceptional natural scenery and features 18 holes.

Pedro Rodrigues, Madeira's Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, commented, quoted in the same note, that this government decision is based on the recognition of golf as a strategic segment of sports tourism, considered an essential driver for the sustained development of the regional tourism sector.

He also stated that the Regional Government intends, with this project, to "consolidate Madeira as a leading destination for the sport, while also promoting the decentralization of tourism offerings, bringing new infrastructure to the west of the island."
