The land, located next to the Jamor Sports Complex and granted to the Portuguese Padel Federation (FPP), revealed technical needs that would substantially increase the investment, as reported by Público. Given this situation, the FPP considered the project financially unviable.
At the Oeiras City Council meeting, vice-president Francisco Rocha Gonçalves explained that the city government will not finance the work, as the commitment was limited to the granting of the land, which will now return to the city council.
The project has been controversial since the beginning, due to its proximity to residential areas, possible environmental impacts near the Jamor forest and the fact that the land was intended, according to the detailed plan, for the construction of a daycare center or sports center. The proposal was also opposed by residents and civic movements, such as the Vamos Salvar o Jamor association.
