This investment was approved during an extraordinary general assembly on 31 May, where over 94% of more than 300 members voted in favour of selling a majority share of the club’s SAD (Sporting Limited Company) to Black Knight. The fund initially acquires 62.5% of the SAD, with the stake expected to increase to 70% in the future.

Of the €15.8 million, €10 million will go toward the second phase of the club’s academy, which includes two additional natural grass pitches – one with a 1,500 -2,000 seat stand – and a main building capable of housing 52 young players. This facility will also include auditoriums, conference rooms, and locker rooms. The remaining €5.8 million will support the senior team competing in Portugal’s top flight, the Primeira Liga.

President since 2008 and head of the SAD since its 2013 founding, Magalhães aims to complete the academy upgrades by 2027. The new infrastructure will be located in Quinta da Devesa, near Moreira de Cónegos, where the club already operates training facilities.

The future stadium, set near the current Estádio Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, will seat 10,000 and include 3,500 parking spots. The existing stadium will remain in use for training and B team, or U-23 matches.

The Black Knight group, led by American businessman Bill Foley, owns AFC Bournemouth and other international clubs. Magalhães believes this deal marks a new era, ensuring Moereirense’s sustainability, increased competitiveness, and long-term stability.
