Known for his airline’s controversial fees, ranging from seat selection to printing boarding passes, O’Leary was met with a satirical version of his own pricing strategy when the final bill arrived.
After enjoying a meal comprised of wine, garlic prawns, mushroom bruschetta, and sea bass, O’Leary was handed a receipt that humorously itemised “extra charges” not typically found in restaurants. The bill showed a subtotal of €104.45, but included add-ons such as €7.95 for “extra legroom”, €9.95 for a “priority seat”, and €19.95 for a “quiet zone reservation”, bringing the total to €142.30, and even labelled “Terminal 1” to complete the aviation-themed gag.
The Luvida restaurant later shared the prank on social media, thanking O’Leary for dining with them and joking about the charges. “It was a pleasure to host you”, they wrote. “Hope you don’t mind us adding some additional charges to your bill.” He appeared to find humour in the situation, paying the entirety of the bill and posing smiling with the staff.
O’Leary, 64, has been the CEO of Ryanair for over three decades and helped build the airline into Europe’s largest low-cost carrier. Under his leadership, the airline has become infamous for its no-frills approach and relentless cost-cutting.
Is this the 'Irish Times' now?
What has this to do with Portugal, apart from we fact we all fly once in a while?
