When asked about the fires that are mainly affecting the north of the country and the complaints about the lack of resources, particularly air resources, Luís Montenegro said he understands that a "mayor or a member of the public might express their concern" and that "that is perfectly normal."

"When we're faced with distressing situations, we want to have a response close at hand, and that's legitimate; we know that. But we're making this effort, and that seems indisputable to me. Therefore, rather than creating any kind of controversy, what I want is to appeal for calm and a spirit of national unity so that we can all collaborate in resolving a tragedy that concerns us all," he stated.

The Prime Minister also said that the Government, through the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, is already "creating conditions for post-fire support so that people can quickly recover the conditions necessary to return to normal."
