The new service, which operates seven days a week, ensures that both visitors and residents are greeted upon arrival, provided with information about the local taxi system, and guided to the next available vehicle.

Until now, one of the main challenges for airport arrivals has been the limited availability of transport options. Only Gibraltar-registered taxis are permitted to carry passengers from the border into the city, and with no major ride-hailing services like Uber or Bolt operating locally, both tourists and residents have regularly voiced frustration over long waiting times to secure a taxi.

The introduction of airport-based Taxi Attendants is expected to ease this pressure by streamlining the process and providing a more organized and welcoming system for those arriving in Gibraltar.

The Minister for Transport, Professor John Cortes, welcomed the development, stating:

“I am grateful to the Association for its continued efforts to improve its service, and I am pleased to welcome the recent deployment of Taxi Attendants at the Airport. This is yet another positive step to improve the service.”

The Ministry and the GTA continue to work together on further improvements to Gibraltar’s taxi network, aiming to ensure reliable, efficient, and visitor-friendly transportation.
