Q: Christina, after eight years of hosting “Moving to Portugal” events in London – and most recently taking the Show back to Dublin – why have you now decided to launch the show in Edinburgh this November?

Christina: The decision to bring the event to Edinburgh reflects a clear shift in where interest in Portugal is coming from. Over the past 18 months, we’ve seen a noticeable uptick in Scottish attendees at our London events, as well as more direct enquiries from people and businesses based across Scotland.

This trend aligns with broader data: tourism figures show that visitor numbers from Scotland to Portugal are growing steadily, particularly to lesser-known regions such as the North of Portugal and the island of Madeira. New direct flight routes from Edinburgh and Glasgow to cities like Porto and Funchal have made these less expensive areas far more accessible, which in turn has sparked greater interest in second homes, relocations, and long-term investment. Hosting the event in Edinburgh now feels both timely and necessary to meet that demand.

Q: Are there particular regions in Portugal that are seeing more interest from Scots?

Christina: Absolutely, while Lisbon and the Algarve remain popular, we’ve observed increased attention on the North of Portugal – particularly around Porto and the Douro Valley. These areas combine heritage, affordability, and new infrastructure, making them attractive for lifestyle buyers and investors alike.

Madeira has also emerged as a hotspot, thanks in part to improved air connectivity. The regional government there has also been proactive in promoting business and digital nomad incentives, and we’ve seen Scots take up residency or start projects on the island.

As Portugal’s regional diversity becomes better understood, the traditional hotspots are being joined by new areas – and Scottish travellers are helping to drive that discovery.

Q: What makes this Edinburgh event different from other international property or relocation fairs?

Christina: Unlike our London Moving to Portugal Show, this event will be a carefully curated, smaller - format event with a strong focus on personal interaction. We’ve intentionally kept the scale of the event small and manageable so that attendees can have meaningful conversations — not just collect leaflets.

We’re proud to confirm the participation in the Edinburgh event of highly respected specialist Chamber members, including tax specialists Forvis Mazars, business set up advisors TPMC, foreign exchange specialists Currencies 4 You, top Portuguese estate agents Garvetur, and law firm SBPS Legal. Each of these companies brings with them deep knowledge of the Portuguese market and they will be available throughout the day for one-to-one private consultations.

For someone seriously considering a move or investment, this is an unrivalled opportunity to speak directly with experts who understand both the UK and Portuguese systems — without having to travel to Portugal.

Q: Why should someone attend this event in person instead of simply researching online?

Christina: While online research is a good starting point, it rarely offers real clarity that is tailored to your personal circumstances. This event allows attendees to speak face-to-face with Portuguese legal, tax, property and relocation experts, all in one room. You can ask detailed questions and even book private one-to-one meetings for more confidential or complex enquiries.

We’re also bringing in Scottish case studies and speakers, so attendees will hear directly from their fellow Scots who have already made the move to Portugal or invested there. That peer-to-peer learning is often what people tell us they value most about these events.

Q: What impact do you hope this Edinburgh edition will have?

Christina: Our goal is to demistify the process of moving to or investing in Portugal and to give attendees the confidence to take the next step — whatever that may look like for them.

Portugal offers an outstanding quality of life, a favourable climate, and a welcoming environment for UK nationals post-Brexit. We want to ensure that Scots have easy access to the right information, advice, and networks to make that move as smooth and successful as possible.

The “Moving to Portugal” Show takes place on Thursday, 21st November 2025 at the Scotsman Hotel, Edinburgh.
