According to the report “Automotive Sector Statistics”, released by the Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP), Volkswagen Autoeuropa, in Palmela (Setúbal), recorded a turnover of €3.8 billion last year, followed by Stellantis, in Mangualde (Viseu) with €973 million, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Europe in Abrantes (Santarém) with €334 million (latest data available is from 2023), Toyota Caetano with €83.1 million and CaetanoBus with €107 million (both based in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto).

In terms of the number of employees, Autoeuropa also led the way, with 4,842 people employed, while CaetanoBus had 830 employees last year, Stellantis 814, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Europe 600 and Toyota Caetano 235.

In terms of passenger cars, Autoeuropa produced 236,023 vehicles in 2024 (90.5% of the total), an increase of 7.2% compared to the 220,100 produced in 2023.

Stellantis, responsible for the remaining 9.5% of total passenger car production, also increased its production from 23,101 units in 2023 to 24,907 last year.

As for commercial vehicles, Stellantis produced 61,109 units in 2024 (85.3% of the total), 86 fewer vehicles than in the previous year, while Mitsubishi Fuso Truck went from 11,854 vehicles produced in 2023 to 7,926 in 2024, and Caetano Bus decreased production to 56 units, after producing 107 vehicles in 2023.

On the contrary, Toyota Caetano was the only factory that increased commercial vehicle production by almost 35%, from 1,874 units in 2023 to 2,525 last year.
