While the process for registration is quick, some documentation must be brought:
- The process starts with registering in the Junta de Freguesia of your residency area;
- Take with you a valid residency document, a proof of nationality and a proof of address;
- The registration period has already begun, and it ends by 12 August, 60 days before the election day;

More information about the registration may be answered in your Junta de Freguesia. It is also possible to find more information online at https://www.portaldoeleitor.pt/en/Election/ElectionsandReferendums/Pages/default.aspx or contact 808 206 206 or 213 947 101.
To know where to vote, 15 days before the elections, go to your local Junta de Freguesia and ask where the polls are located. It is also possible to send a free SMS to 3838 with RE ID number and birth date YYYYMMDD (RE 12345678 19770821).
Great overview! Where can I find the same for Alentejo?

All well and good, HOWEVER in the past 2 local elections, we've been refused by our freguesia stating that the US isn't included on a very short list of countries allowed to vote. My Aussie neighbors had the same experience. The freguesia workers were very friendly and they showed me a list of maybe 35 countries allowed to so vote,.....even though there are nearly 200 nations on planet earth. What is the truth here?

The online methods to get information don't work for foreigners, and public information is generally only relevant for Portuguese citizens. My passport number has 9 digits, and you can only enter 8 in these systems. And of course you don't need to register again if you are already registered.

Imagine letting immigrants vote in the USA! Ha! Only Portuguese citizens should be given this unique privilege and not temporary foreign residents.
